Just a simple thinking of you card

Hello & thanks for checking out my simple “thinking of you card”.

For this card I stamped a flower from the Tim Holtz set, Illustrated Garden onto a watercolor paper card base and used a water pen and some distress markers to color it in.

Haunted House Inspiration

I created this card using the new Tim Holtz ‘Sketch Manor’ stamp set.

I started by dipping a piece of water color paper into inks, drying in between dippings. I then created my scene, I stamped the house, tree, moon and bats on to the base paper. I also stamped an additional house onto another piece of water color paper.

I colored the moon and tree with the water color method using distress inks and a water pen.

Next I colored the “extra” stamped house using the same method. I cut the house into three sections; the left wing, the middle part of the house and the right wing. I then glued the “wings” down onto the base of the card. I took the middle of the house and glued it onto another piece of paper so it would stand off of the card a little more.

I used a blank page form an old book and stamped ‘an uninvited guest’ from the ‘Tiny Text - Halloween’ stamp set.

Eye spy Halloween Inspiration

I created this Halloween card using the newly released ‘Dearly Departed’ stamp set.

I stamped the eye onto a piece of water color paper that I colored using distress inks. I stitched around the image and taped it into a piece of Black Out Kraft stock that I wrinkled up and smoothed out. I completed it with a sticker from the ideology Halloween curiosity sticker book.

Alcohol Lift Ink Birthday Card

So alcohol lift ink is completely new to my crafting stash.. and I LOVE IT!!!

I added some alcohol ink to an alcohol ink applicator tool and pounced it around onto my yupo

Then I took my glorious bouquet stamp and applied the alcohol lift ink and stamped an area of my dried alcohol ink design. Using a paper towel I dabbed the lift ink off the image and carefully rubbed more of the lift ink off the paper until I had a beautiful ghostly flower image. Since the alcohol ink was transferred onto my stamp, I stamped onto the baseboard photo frame

Using tear tape I attached my paper to the frame. I added a small metal flower to the side, I used green & purple beeswax metal finish to add a some color to the adornment.

I wrapped the frame with some thread and stamped a little sentiment using the tiny text stamp onto a piece of old book page.

I finished it off with some sequins to add a little sparkle.

Mixed Media Monday ~ because why not

So it’s been awhile I know. But I got busy today and used some of my stash!! No ones been going anywhere during this pandemic and what a great reason to dig into some old piles and turn them into something to cherish.

For this piece I used an old book, fabric scraps, some Tim Holtz goodies, some ephemera and an old photo of my grandparents. Can’t forget my go to glue these days to hold it all together!

We’ll start with this amazing metal accent piece, it’s actually a Halloween Vignette Accent.. not so spooky, I added a some inka gold with my finger to give it an antiqued golden feel. I attached a piece of chain with eyelets so it could be hung.

The photo is a scan of an old photo booth photo my grandparents took back in the 50’s! I just love it!! It is framed by a frame page from a vintage photo album. I added a stamped sentiment from the Tiny Text stamp set  as well as a little nest of gold thread
I used layers of fabric scraps to add texture. I stitched a few pieces together to add interest as well as more texture.

Once I thought I was done, I felt like it needed a little more of something at the bottom. So I added a Mini Plaquette as well as a Foundry Adornment

We can’t forget everything is carefully layered onto a vintage book keeping book cover. It had the perfect amount of ware already on it, I just added a little distress ink to the outer edge to help grunge up the rough edge. Oh my how I love vintage well loved books!!

So let’s dig into our stash and make something totally awesome!

Cute and Creepy Valentine’s Day Card Inspiration

That’s right!! Valentine’s Day doesn’t always have to be hearts and cute puppies!! I created this card using the 2019 Tim Holtz Stamptember stamp set. Unfortunately that set has been discontinued, but you could use the eye in a jar stamp from the Scared Silly Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stamp set to get the same look!

I stamped my image with the help of my stamp platform, used a water color technique with a few distress markers, and pulled out my sewing machine so I could stitch around the boarder of the layer.

Using tear tape I taped my layer to the card base.

For the inside of my card, I chose a simple sentiment from another of Tim Holtz stamp sets, Crazy Talk!

I had a blast creating this simple and quick creepy,  but cute card! Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Halloween Inspiration No. 3

I fell in love with the Tim Holtz stamps, Monster Reunion the first time I saw them. So needless to say I was extremely excited to see the Simon Says Stamp - Stamptember release. As soon as they arrived I couldn’t wait to get in my craft room and play!!

To create these cards I started by cutting some circles out of vellum and adding some stitching.

Next I started on the stamped parts. Using my stamping platform I stamped multiple times to ensure I got dark crisp stamped images.

Using several different Distress inks with my water pen, I colored in all the images.

Fussy cutting came next, and it probably took the longest amount of time.

After I cut everyone out I went back in with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a piece of foam from a blender tool and kind of “grunged” up the edges. That way they got some extra depth and the bright white of the paper was muted a little.

After getting a closer look at the bird I thought he needed a little of of blue to make him a little less muddy.

Then I started on my background. Using Wild Honey Distress Oxide Ink  I dabbed the paper into the ink on my mat about three times (or until I was happy with my coloring) and dried the paper using my heat tool in between dabbings.

Using my blending brush I inked around the outer edges with Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink  sprayed it with water and dried it with my heat tool. I then dabbed the edges of my background in the leftover ink on my mat and finished it by drying with my heat tool.

In my stash, I already had this die cut.. it’s the Tim Holtz Bird Branch Sizzix die  so I chopped the bird off and painted the branch portions with Ground Expresso Distress Paint

I then took all my backgrounds and glued them onto a black boarder and onto a card base.  Using Distress Collage Medium I glued the stitched vellum circles to the card.

Using my stash of old threads I created a “thread nest” under each animal using a complementary color.

Using the sentiments from the Tim Holtz Monstrous stamp set, I stamped the sentiment using versa mark and used an opaque white embossing powder

I then cut out my sentiments and glued  everything on my bases.

Halloween Inspiration No. 2

October is a few days away which means Halloween is in the air!

I wanted to create another piece to show off some of my favorite products.

I created this piece using a canvas panel as my base. I stared by pulling a page from an old book, cut it into two pieces that would fit on the length of my panel and used my sewing machine to create a sewn boarder. I used a gel medium to glue them onto the panel and set it with my heat gun.

I also applied a generous layer of opaque crackle paste over the entire board. I am not patient enough to let it air dry so I again used my heat gun to expedite the crackle effect. I used a paint brush to add a few dots of liquid acrylic paint and sprayed it with some water to get the color to move around and really get into the crackle.

I used my sewing machine again to create some spider web looking patterns and cut them out to add to the overall composition. I added some texture with some old (unused) first aid kite gauze.

I stamped a bug from the Entomology stamp set, used the corresponding die and cut it out using my sidekick. I then dig through my stash of ideology wings to find a good set for my bug to display. I put the bug under a mica tile and used mini fasteners to hold it in place.

halloween quote chip was the perfect addition to an index clip

Halloween Inspiration No. 1

It’s almost Halloween right…?

I ordered the new Ghost Town & Bat Crazy Tim Holtz dies as soon as I could, so when they arrived I was ready to play!

Using some of the idea-ology kraft stock paper, I cut out the church, the tree and some bats. I used a small sanding block to take away some of the color of the church to get it nice and grungy. I added some vellum to the empty windows and colored it with some yellow alcohol make it look like something inside was glowing. I added some Prima art stones below the church using some gel medium, when it was dry I painted it with some liquid acrylics.

I cut a circle out of velum and sewed around the outside to give it some extra texture. The Halloween quote chip was the perfect addition.

I put a nice layer of opaque crackle texture paste over the canvas board and used my heat gun to speed up the drying time.

I added some extra texture to the piece by using some old (unused) gauze and some rusty wire. I also gave it a good splattering or black stain.
